The raw number of people with depression in the United States is estimated at over 20 million. Twice as many women as men are being treated for depression. Two percent of all children and five percent of all teenagers suffer from depression. The elderly, defined as people over sixty-five, have a risk factor four times greater than the rest of the population for developing depression.
